UPDATE: Dr.Klassen says local COVID-19 vaccine distribution on par with the province

Huron Perth’s Medical Officer of Health is shedding more light on the COVID-19 vaccine situation in our region.
It comes after Huron Perth Public Health announced Tuesday that none of the clinics in our region are currently booking appointments.
Dr.Miriam Klassen says HPPH is prepared to give all of the vaccine they receive and some weeks they have been able to vaccinate over 6,000 people with clinics fully booked.
She says the rate limiting step has been vaccine supply, which isn’t unexpected, as both the federal and provincial governments have always projected that it would take many months to reach the total population with a first dose.
To date, the vaccine program in Huron Perth is progressing on par with the province.
Dr.Klassen adds an important strategy in controlling a pandemic is to break the chains of transmission and that’s why the hot spot vaccination approach will benefit us in Huron Perth.
