St.Marys could soon have its own Service Ontario location again

St. Marys could be closer to have its own Service Ontario location again.

After the old Service Ontario closed last year when the private contractor who ran it retired, the town is now investigating bringing in a location it would run under a two year contract with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.

St.Marys CAO Brent Kittmer says they are currently looking at the agreement and making sure they understand all of the obligations while also searching for a suitable location.

He says once they are ready a business case will be presented to town council to make sure they understand all of the costs involved.

“At the same time, we’re going to going to get a location nailed down, we hope in the next four to six weeks and then the province is telling us it takes about three months to launch, if we were to have a service up and running by mid to late summer I think we’d be in really good shape.”

Kittmer adds staff hired to work at the centre would be paid with funding received through the province.
