‘Tis the season to be scammed

This may be the season of giving, but police say it’s also the season of scamming.

The Huron County OPP is warning people about some potential scams that are currently active in the county.

Officers were recently told of a woman going door-to-door in Exeter asking for donations to a variety of causes.

She was not an authorized canvasser and was merely preying on the generosity of those in the Christmas spirit.

Officers were also told of a telephone scam in Goderich.

Someone called a senior citizen asking for a donation to the OPP’s “Red Ribbon Campaign”.

The OPP does not solicit funds for programs and campaigns.

The police say whenever you’re asked for money you should thoroughly research the charity before committing to making a donation to make sure it’s going to the right place.
