Local seniors to get ‘more exercise’ due to Canada Post cutbacks

The CEO of Canada Post offered an interesting defense for his decision to cut door-to-door mail delivery.

Deepak Chopra told an emergency session of the House of Commons yesterday that community mailboxes will give senior citizens more chances to exercise.

The crown corporation announced plans last week to make Canada the only nation on the planet without door-to-door mail delivery.

It will also hike the cost of stamps to one dollar each.

These decisions are based on the results of a report by the Conference Board of Canada where Deepak Chopra also sits on the board of directors and got Canada Post to finance the study.

Chopra was appointed to his current position in 2011 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
