There’s good news and bad news when it comes to COVID-19 in our region.
While Huron Perth Public Health says cases have declined after a surge a few weeks ago, with twelve new cases reported after the weekend, there are several ongoing and new workplace outbreaks.
HPPH doesn’t report on what workplaces are impacted but the majority of new cases are variants of concern, which transmit more easily, with 28 active cases associated with variants of concern reported on Monday.
Case investigations show people aren’t following public health measures with some cases coming from indoor social gatherings with people from other households.
“We understand that people are fatigued and want public health restrictions to be lifted,” says Huron Perth Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen. “But high numbers of close contacts allow COVID-19 to keep circulating in our communities. The best way forward is to keep contacts as low as possible and to maintain physical distance from anyone not in your household, while vaccination efforts continue.”
Two of the new cases reported are in Stratford, one is in North Perth and one is in West Perth with the rest in Huron County.
There are 47 active cases, six more than Friday, with the death toll remaining at 57.
