New NBA-sized outdoor basketball court could be built in Stratford

A new NBA-sized outdoor basketball court could one day be located in Stratford.

The Stratford Basketball Association wants to build the court at the Stratford Education and Recreation Centre and they are looking to to the city for support.

If built, the court would be 94 feet by 50 feet and would include six nets and a surface built for play in all weather with the goal to have the court being used for play by June 2022.

The association says the court would cost around $160,000 with $92,000 already collected, including support from NBA Canada, and organizers say they will be able to raise the remaining amount.

Brian Cooper is the Chairperson of Canada Basketball and a volunteer with the association and he says they are making a simple request to the city.

“To provide the land for us, the ongoing maintenance which is very minimal, the power source and their blanket coverage for liability.”

The city is currently reviewing the proposal and the request.
