Hazy conditions persisting across Southern Ontario

A Special Air Quality Statement from Environment Canada for Perth County remains in effect.

Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder says around 100 forest and wild fires burning across Northern Ontario are causing smoke to lift up into the atmosphere and the flow of the atmosphere’s pattern is causing it to flow towards Southern Ontario, including our region.

That’s causing hazy conditions locally.

Flisfeder says it’s also causing health issues for some.

“Throat irritation, coughing, it’s particularly bad for people with respiratory illness, it’s just going to aggravate their illness so they want to make sure they stay indoors away from the smoke as much as possible.”

Flisfeder adds conditions should improve as a cold front moves through Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.
