Temporary weekend closures on the way for Stratford’s Lakeside Drive

The City of Stratford is trying to get more residents out and taking part in active transportation.

To that end, Stratford City Council voted at their meeting Monday afternoon to approve the closure of Lakeside Drive, from Morenz Drive to Front Street, for every weekend in August including Labour Day.

It’s the second year the road closure is in place and it will start this Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and be in place until 8 a.m. Monday.

Taylor Crinklaw is the Director of Infrastructure and Development Services for the City of Stratford and he says they have heard a lot of positive feedback about the temporary closure.

“Many people enjoyed the reduced traffic congestion, they felt safer going out with their family to enjoy that area as well as the ability to cycle basically freely in that area.”

In addition to the closure, only westbound traffic will be allowed to travel on Lakeside Drive from Morenz Drive to Waterloo Street on weekends in August.
