Virtual presentation on residential schools and reconciliation taking place Wednesday

An upcoming virtual presentation is looking at understanding residential schools and reconciliation.

Wednesday’s Zoom presentation is being put on by Western University and is being led by Cody Groat, a Six Nations band member and Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Indigenous Studies at the university.

The presentation will focus on the Indian Residential School System, and two local former residential schools, the Mohawk Institute, where Groat’s grandparents attended, and the Mt. Elgin Industrial Institute.

Groat says the presentation is aimed at giving people a better understanding of what went on at the schools.

“How it happened to specific individuals, in this case my family, but also to highlight two residential schools that are in our community to understand how in many ways our community was part of this broader process.”

The presentation is free to virtually attend.
