NDP candidate for Perth-Wellington says pandemic exposed cracks in community

The federal NDP candidate for Perth-Wellington says the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the cracks in our community.

Kevin Kruchkywich says people have really been struggling during the pandemic with some having to hold down multiple jobs with no benefits and skyrocketing housing and rental costs.

Kruchkywich says he’s an actor by trade and he moved to the city with his wife ten years ago because they fell in love with the way of life here but he says we are pricing people out of the community and he took the pandemic as a call to action to run for office and put things like a living wage and a universal income in place.

He says, despite being an actor, he can relate to those working in other industries and what’s important to them.

“We’re trades people, we’re factory workers, we come into this big beautiful factory but we’re putting in our full time and we’re plying our trade.”

Also running in the September 20th election are Conservative candidate John Nater, Liberal candidate Brendan Knight and People’s Party of Canada candidate Wayne Baker.
