Vaccine policy could soon be in place for all St.Marys town staff

A COVID-19 vaccine policy could soon be in place for all St.Marys town staff.

While vaccine policies from the province for hospitals and home and community care service providers will come into effect as of next Tuesday, town staff are preparing a report and recommendation that the rules be expanded to include all staff, including councilors, volunteers and contractors.

Chief Administrative Officer Brent Kittmer says anyone who chooses not to be vaccinated would have to show proof of their exemptions for medical or religious reasons or documentation that backs up their choice.

Kittmer says it’s all about being transparent with the public.

“We want to make sure that we give the assurances to any patrons that come in to do business with us, whether it be at a recreation facility or a municipal operations facility or at town hall, that they are dealing with vaccinated staff.”

Kittmer adds the report will be presented to council at their meeting on September 14th.
