Perth-Wellington MP Elect says he supports Erin O’Toole as Conservative party leader

Perth-Wellington MP Elect John Nater says Conservative party leader Erin O’Toole should be given another chance to run another election.

Nater, who was re-elected for this term in Ottawa in the recent election, says O’Toole has what it takes to lead the party in the next election and adds he thinks he has what it takes to be a great Prime Minister.

Nater’s comments come after an online petition was launched by a representative on the Conservative Party’s national council calling for a referendum on O’Toole’s leadership after he failed to unseat Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

As for his own interest in being party leader, Nater says it’s not a part of his plan right now.

“Never say never but I have a young family and my greatest privilege right now is being their father and to serve as the member of parliament for Perth-Wellington.”

Other Conservative party members including MP Michelle Rempel Garner have come out in defense of O’Toole as leader.
