Perth County looking at ways to encourage affordable and attainable housing

What are the best ways Perth County can encourage more affordable and attainable housing in the area?

That’s the topic of a work plan presented to Perth County Council on Thursday created by a committee set up to try and tackle the issue.

The report is broken up into several different sections including education, policies, and innovation with each laying out actions that can be taken including creating a system to determine and track the inventory of affordable housing in the area.

Ryan Erb is the Chair of the Committee on Attainable and Affordable Housing and he says there are short-term goals that can be taken now to try and address the situation.

“Making sure that developers are actually aware of tools and incentives that exist now.”

Erb says the committee is looking for money to be committed by the county that would go towards hiring a support staff member to help fulfill their mandate.

Council voted to refer the work plan to their budget process for next year.
