Police seize $32-million in illegal cannabis in southwestern Ontario drug bust

A 16-month long investigation has netted police in Southwestern Ontario over $32-million in illegal cannabis and cannabis derivatives.

Dubbed Project Gainsborough the investigation has also identified 21 members or associates of a criminal organization that have been charged with 118 offences under the Criminal Code.

The investigation began in June of 2020 and involved a criminal organization running an illegal cannabis website with delivery service to London and Kitchener as well as Toronto and Hamilton. Police say the organization was also trafficking cocaine.

Two clandestine cannabis extraction labs were dismantled in Middlesex County and Brampton.

Police also seized six firearms including four handguns, a .22 caliber rifle, and a 12 gauge sawed-off shotgun.

Three suspects were held in custody while 18 others have court dates throughout November and December.
