Ontario Nurses Association to hold rally outside Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece’s office

Registered nurses and healthcare professionals are hoping to have their voices heard in Stratford.

The Ontario Nurses Association, the union that represents nurses and other medical professionals, will be holding a rally outside Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece’s office on Thursday.

The Day of Action is in protest of Bill 124, which they say holds wage and benefit increases to only one percent a year and limits access to fair collective bargaining.

ONA officials say the bill has caused many RNs and other professionals to leave the industry, worsening the provincial nursing shortage.

However, government officials say the act is designed to protect public sector jobs and vital frontline services by basing salary increases on seniority, performance, or increased qualifications.

The rally is taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
