Happening Now: Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect for southern Perth County

Environment Canada has issued a Winter Weather Travel Advisory for southern Perth County including Stratford and Mitchell.

The weather agency says low visibility will be caused by blowing snow and brief bursts of heavy snow beginning Monday night and continuing into Tuesday morning.

Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are possible over a 2 to 4 hour period.

Strong and gusty westerly winds will usher in fresh arctic air along with lake effect flurries from Lake Huron. Snow squalls from Lake Huron may occasionally extend inland to the region. The lake effect flurries will slowly weaken beginning Tuesday afternoon.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. If you must drive, be prepared for areas of poor visibility. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
