Updated guidance on COVID-19 safety coming from Huron Perth Public Health

Cutting back on the amount of people gathering together and limiting our contacts.

Those are two recommendations that could be part of new advice on its way from Huron Perth Public Health.

The region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr.Miriam Klassen says the guidance is coming soon and will be based on indicators including the number of cases and how many people are in area hospitals with the virus.

While the new Omicron variant hasn’t been found in our area yet, Dr. Klassen says it’s a matter of time before it becomes the dominant strain locally.

“I think that it was detected in London, again it appears to be highly transmissible so it’s probably more a matter of when not if.”

She adds more information needs to be collected before we learn what the full impact of Omicron will be.
