HPPH investigating possible Omicron case in Huron County

Local health officials are investigating a possible case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in Huron County.

Huron Perth Public Health says a person screened positive for a marker for the variant and they are now waiting for more information.

However, given how easily Omicron spreads, they are managing the situation as the variant unless information changes.

Officials are contacting everyone who has been identified as a high-risk contact, and who needs to isolate and test, with the investigation also including the Pink at the Rink tournament held recently in South Huron.

HPPH is working with event organizers to identify high-risk contacts, but they say, anyone who was in attendance at Stephen Arena in South Huron and Hensall Arena in Bluewater on Saturday, December, 4th needs to monitor for symptoms.

If they experience any symptoms, no matter how mild, they need to isolate immediately and arrange for testing.

They also need to continue to isolate until test results are received.

“We are still learning about the Omicron variant, but it’s clear that it spreads easily,” says Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth. “HPPH strongly encourages everyone to continue to follow public health guidance, especially by getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, and limiting the size of social gatherings.”
