Police: Victim loses nearly $3,000 through text scam

Perth County OPP are warning residents about another texting scam making its way around the area.

On January 12th, police say a victim was contacted through a text message that appeared to be from a reputable bank.

The text was about an issue and when the victim clicked on it it took them to a website that looked legitimate.

The victim entered their banking information to log in and scammers used those details to transfer almost $3,000 out of their account.

You’re being encouraged to stay educated and informed to reduce the risk of being a victim of fraud and to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre for more information.
