A former theatre in downtown St.Marys will have a new life.
The Town of St.Marys says it’s purchasing 14 Church Street North which once housed the Mercury Theatre and has been vacant since 2006.
Officials say they plan to preserve the building’s heritage value and as a potential site for cultural activities, library and leisure programming, and administrative space.
A planning consultant will now be hired along with a steering committee formed to determine how the property will be used.
The hope is to have the building open for services in 2025 or 2026.
