Changes are being made to help protect firefighters on the job.
Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says the new policy measures will amend the building code in Ontario to require chief building officers to notify fire departments when new commercial buildings are constructed using lightweight materials.
Municipalities will also have to carry out community risk assessments on existing buildings and alert fire departments.
The announced changes were made on the 11th anniversary of the building collapse and fire in Listowel that killed two firefighters.
