St. Marys lifts COVID-19 state of emergency

After over two years of being under a state of emergency, the town of St. Marys is ending it. The declaration in March of 2020 allowed the town to act quickly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Al Strathdee says he is confident in the decision to end the state of emergency, “After consulting with Huron Perth Public Health, I feel confident in our decision to lift the State of Emergency. While we see this move as a positive and hopeful step forward, I want to remind residents that the pandemic is not over.”

“We need to be mindful of the valuable – and difficult – lessons we’ve learned over the past two years,” he continued. “Please continue to follow all public health recommendations: get vaccinated, stay home if you’re sick, wash your hands regularly, and practice masking and physical distancing, when appropriate.”

Despite lifting the state of emergency town officials will continue to monitor recommendations from Huron Perth Public Health and the province of Ontario.
