Liberals name Ashley Fox as candidate in provincial election

The Liberals in Perth Wellington have nominated Ashley Fox as their candidate in the race to represent the riding at Queen’s Park.

Fox is a Registered Practical Nurse who works as a nurse case manager and community outreach coordinator with Promyse Home Care in Kitchener Waterloo.  She also coordinates a course with the Leadership in Senior Living Program at Conestoga College.

She lives in Palmerston with her husband and is expecting their first child later this year.

Fox says that as a predominantly agricultural area the government at Queen’s Park must care about Perth Wellington’s unique challenges, “As someone who grew up in Perth-Wellington, I know this is one of the most productive agricultural regions in Ontario. We need a government that acknowledges and cares about our rural public education, our environmental concerns, and protecting land use.”

She is motivated to run by her desire to be a strong voice in Queen’s Park for our rural community and by Ontario’s needs in healthcare. “If there’s anything that this pandemic has really shown us is that health care and senior care are absolutely vital in this province, and we need to make sure we have the policies and legislation in place to ensure it is a priority,” Fox said.

Fox will be up against Stratford City Councillor Jo-Dee Burbach who is running for the NDP and Conservative candidate Mathew Rae, a former public servant who lives in Mitchell.

Conservative MPP Randy Pettapiece announced late last year that he would not seek reelection in Perth Wellington. At 73-years of age, Pettapiece has chosen instead to spend time with his family.

The provincial election will be held on June 2nd.
