Don’t leave your pets unattended in hot vehicles. Stratford Perth Humane Society

You’re being reminded not to leave your pet unattended in your vehicle with the temperature soaring.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Perth County and the Stratford Perth Humane Society says pets, especially dogs, can be put in danger even if your window is left open and you park in the shade.

Dogs have a limited ability to sweat, so even a short time in a hot environment can be life-threatening.

Calla James with the humane society says it’s a good idea to leave your dog at home.

“Dogs have a very limited ability to sweat and even a short amount of time in a hot environment can be very life-threatening.”

If you see a dog or other pet left in a vehicle, you’re asked to call 911 or your local humane society.
