Breaking: Deputy Mayor Martin Ritsma hoping to be Stratford’s next Mayor

A familiar face wants to be Stratford’s next Mayor.
Martin Ritsma has announced he will be running for the position in this fall’s municipal election and he will be filing his nomination to make it official on Friday morning.
Ritsma, a retired educator, has served in politics for 12 years including eight as Deputy Mayor and he hopes to succeed Dan Mathieson who announced last December that he wouldn’t seek re-election.
Ritsma says he has a lot of experience that he hopes to use if elected.
“Whether it’s agriculture, whether it’s education, coaching, it’s that interactive piece that I enjoy, building relationships with people and working with them to a common goal.”
Local restaurant owner Larry McCabe is also running for Mayor in Stratford.
Election Day is October 24th.
