HPHA CEO says new report doesn’t reflect the reality of local hospitals

The CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance says a new report on violence against hospital workers doesn’t fairly represent reality.

Andrew Williams is taking issue with the new survey from the Canadian Union of Public Employees that appears to show a rise in violence against frontline hospital workers because of tensions over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams says they take violence in the workplace remarkably seriously with a zero-tolerance policy but he says the information in the report was presented in an unfair way and doesn’t reflect the reality in which local hospitals are operating.

He adds it’s hard to tell how many actual local employees responded to the poll because of the methodology that was used.

“We’re not seeing anything like the numbers that were presented, in fact, I don’t recall seeing any gun violence, as an example, as was reflected in the report nor the sexual assaults.”

Williams adds he’s reached out internally in an effort to learn where any concerns over the workplace may exist.
