More provincial funding announced for affordable housing in Stratford

The wheels are in motion to create more affordable housing in Stratford.

The Ontario government is investing $80 thousand through the Rural Economic Development Program into investStratford, which will be matched by the city, and ultimately used to build more affordable and attainable housing here.

Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson says it will lead to city council being able to create and foster relationships with builders to bring more housing options to the city.

He adds he’s pleased with the news, especially as it comes in his last term as Mayor.

“It’s very important and it’s one of those things why you work up to the last day, anything that I can do to help foster the continuation of these important works is good and I’m glad that the new council, it will be something that will be in place for them”

This is phase two of funding announced by the province and will go towards implementing a report from the city on affordable housing that first came out in 2020.
