Winter tennis will soon be a reality in Stratford

Tennis will soon be a year-round activity in Stratford.

A clear bubble, the first of its kind in North America and a project of Tennis Clubs of Canada, will be going over the top of five tennis courts in Upper Queens Park during the winter months meaning players will be able to participate in the sport even when it gets cold outside.

People walking through the park will also be able to watch what’s going on inside the bubble as they stroll through the park.

Stratford Tennis Club Manager Steven Schwartzentruber says the idea is a game changer for the sport in the city.

“We have a very popular Stratford Tennis Club here during the summer so instead of our members having to go an hour to Kitchener/Waterloo or to the London area, some even went to Guelph to play winter tennis, now it’s just right out their back door.”
