Bird flu suspected to be cause of the deaths of three Stratford swans

Bird flu is suspected to be the cause of the deaths of three swans in Stratford.

City officials say the adult birds died over the weekend and their symptoms were typical of Avian Influenza.

It was determined by a veterinarian and the avian pathologist at the Animal Health Lab in Guelph that the flu was the most likely cause.

Residents and visitors are being reminded not to feed local wildfowl, as this encourages the birds to gather in large numbers and increases the chances of spreading bird flu.

Anyone who finds a dead, injured or sick swan in the parks system is asked to call Stratford’s Parks and Forestry Department.
