Perth-Wellington MP John Nater says he’s hopeful a new Chief Executive Officer and board of directors at Hockey Canada will be able to bring about the much-needed change Canadians expect.
Reacting to Chief Executive Officer Scott Smith leaving his position immediately and the entire board also agreeing to step down, Nater says in a statement that he’s relieved to see that after months of denial and avoiding responsibility, the senior leadership finally made the decision.
He says that Hockey Canada is in serious need of fundamental change and adds that he’s been clear to Canadians that such change could not occur under leadership which has been responsible for a culture that condoned sexual violence over the past several decades.Â
Nater is the Conservative shadow minister for Canadian Heritage.
