Breaking: New long-term care home slated to be built at Stratford’s Grand Trunk site

A new long-term care home continues to be in the works for Stratford.

A collaboration between the City of Stratford and peopleCare will see the new home built at the Grand Trunk site, the former Cooper block.

Officials say the 160-bed home is envisioned as part of a campus of care which would include a range of seniors housing and supports to be developed in stages.

The first stage would be building the home pending due diligence and other requirements being met.

It would replace the peopleCare facility that was destroyed by flooding in February 2015.

Originally, the campus was slated to be built in the Dickens Place and Hyde Road area but it was moved after that area wasn’t deemed to be big enough.

In January, the province announced that approval had been given to peopleCare to re-develop a new long-term care home in Stratford
