No injuries in early morning blaze at Stratford business

Stratford Fire Chief John Paradis is calling a blaze that broke out early Monday morning “challenging.”

Paradis says firefighters were called out to Superior Sealers at 115 Monteith Avenue around 3 o’clock.

He says emergency crews conducted “defensive operations” to protect other structures in the area but adds the building’s domed metal roof and the amount of material inside made the blaze difficult to put out.

There were no people or animals in the building when the fire started.

Paradis says firefighters were pulled out for safety reasons because of containers exploding in the fire.

Police remain at the scene providing traffic control and safety for those living in the area.

Paradis says a loss amount won’t be able to be determined until after the investigation has been completed with owner input on the structure and content.

He adds that an excavator was brought to the site to pull the structure apart so firefighters could more easily spread things out to extinguish the remaining hot spots.
