Police: London man charged after assaulting officers during R.I.D.E. check

Police say a London resident faces several charges after officers were assaulted during the arrest of an impaired driver.

Huron County OPP was conducting a R.I.D.E. check at the intersection of Blythe Road and Brussels Line near Walton around 12:30 Thursday morning.

Officers were speaking with the driver of a sports utility vehicle, according to police, when they observed evidence of alcohol consumption in the vehicle.

The driver failed a breathalyzer test and was then arrested when he became verbally abusive and resisted, kicking two officers and the cruiser while wearing steel-toed boots.

The officers suffered minor injuries and the driver was arrested.

The 34-year-old man faces charges including two counts of assaulting a peace officer and uttering threats.

He has a court appearance scheduled for early March.
