‘Significant’ winter storm expected to impact Perth County starting Wednesday

It might be back to the drawing board if you have travel plans for later this week.

Southern Perth County, including Stratford and Mitchell, has joined most of southern Ontario in being under a Special Weather Statement from Environment Canada with ‘significant’ snowfall expected for Wednesday into Thursday.

Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says a low-pressure system “will get itself together” in the Texas area on Tuesday before moving northeastwards.

Coulson says snow from the system is expected to move into Perth County on Wednesday morning and it will continue into early Thursday morning.

Most areas, Coulson says, will see between 10 to 15 centimetres of snow but locally some could see as much as 20 centimetres.

Coulson adds this will be the “first big” snowfall the area has seen in a while with January being very mild.

He says the storm will impact travel as it’s expected to cover most of southern Ontario.
