United Way Perth-Huron stepping up to help LGBTQ+ community feel included

The United Way Perth-Huron says it wants to support local diversity, equity, and inclusion.

As part of its 2022/23 Annual Campaign, the UWPH says it’s working to raise funds for the Stratford Pride Community Centre.

Organizers behind the SPCC say it is a safe space for the Perth-Huron LGBTQ+ community to share social, educational, and health-related issues.

It also offers resources for local businesses that want to broaden connections with LGBTQ+ customers and employees.

Locally, the UWPH says a lack of programs and services for the LGBTQ+ population has resulted in increased social isolation and poor mental and physical well-being.

SPCC President Bruce Duncan Skeaff says, “The United Way’s support is crucial to our goal of providing social and health supports and services for the LGBTQ+ population where none existed before.”
