Over $871,000 in provincial gas tax funding on the way for local transportation systems

Over $871,000 in provincial funding will be flowing into rural transportation systems in the Stratford area.

The money is part of the province’s gas tax program and represents a 7.7 per cent increase in year-over-year funding levels.

Funding for the gas tax program is determined by the number of litres of gasoline sold in the province during the previous year.

Municipalities that support public transit services in their community receive two cents per litre of provincial gas tax revenue collected.

An extra $80 million was put in by the province to make up for reduced gas sales due to ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stratford will receive over $484,000 while St.Marys will get over $163,000.
