Free showers available on Tuesday’s in St. Marys

Free showers for people who need them are available in St. Marys.  In an effort to wash away stigma the Community Services Department and the Community Outreach Worker have organized free showers at the Pyramid Recreation Centre on Tuesdays between 9 am 1 pm.

Shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, and toothpaste will be available at no cost.

“Most people take having a hot shower for granted,” said St. Marys’ Community Outreach Worker Brittany Petrie. “But there are individuals in our community who simply don’t have access to shower facilities. This program is designed to fill that gap for anyone who needs it, for any reason.”

Those who want to use the shower can visit the Guest Services desk at the Pyramid Recreation Centre during program hours. Staff will provide toiletries upon request and direct patrons to the private shower. While there are no strict time limits, patrons are encouraged to keep their shower to 30 minutes or less. Towels are not provided.
