Stratford’s Mayor reacts to 2023 provincial budget

Stratford’s Mayor says the best word to describe the 2023 Ontario budget is “potential.”

While there appears to be little direct financial support for individuals or families in the budget, Martin Ritsma says the city needs to delve into the different envelopes that were announced to learn more.

By doing that, Ritsma says he feels they will identify indirect support that will lead to dollars for the city.

Ritsma says they are still hoping there will be future announcements on funding for things like the Grand Trunk redevelopment and roads.

Last week, Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy tabled a record $204.7 billion budget, which includes a deficit of approximately $2.2 billion for this fiscal year.

Support for industries, tax relief for manufacturers and small businesses, as well as millions to expand surgeries at private clinics, were all included in the 186-page document.
