Workforce census data released by Avon Maitland District School Board

How does the workforce at the local public school board reflect our community?

That was one of the questions an employee census, launched by the Avon Maitland District School Board, aimed to answer.

The voluntary, confidential survey, was completed by over 70 per cent of school board employees.

Dr. Allison Segeren, the Research Manager at the AMDSB, says nearly 80 per cent of staff are female, which is quite common among school boards, and four per cent identify as a minority sexual orientation, which is representative of the broader population.

Over fifty per cent of employees identify as Christian with thirty-six per cent non-religious.

Meanwhile, over ninety per cent said English was their first language.

The results will be used to better serve staff needs as well as inform the board’s recruitment and retention strategy so that they can diversify their workforce.
