Perth County Council joins call to improve school bus safety across Ontario

Perth County is calling on the province to improve school bus safety.

It comes after North Perth Council sent a letter to the province earlier this month asking for them to install and pay for stop arm cameras on all school buses by the start of the 2023-24 school year.

They also asked the province to underwrite the costs for the implementation and ongoing fees for administrative monetary penalties in small and rural communities.

Vehicles blowing by stopped school buses, not spreading police resources any thinner in municipalities and small or rural areas being unable to pay the costs of the program themselves were cited as three of the main reasons for the requests.

At their meeting Thursday morning, Perth County Council voted to lend their support and send a letter to the province making the same requests.
