Dry weather having an impact on Perth County farms

While most Perth County farmers have been able to get their first cut of hay off, if it doesn’t rain a lot soon there will be no growth in the second cut.

Julie Danen who owns Danzel Holsteins near Shakespeare says that threatens the livelihoods of area farmers because most produce feed that goes to animals in the dairy industry.

“A drought like this is really, really unusual, I’ve never seen it this dry in my farming career.”

Danen adds corn is already starting to see some stress from the drought and it’s becoming worrisome for all animal agriculture in Perth County.
