Police community mourn the loss of K9 killed in line of duty

Taz, a Woodstock Police Services dog that was killed in the line of duty, had a lot of personality and was eager and driven.

That’s according to WPS Special Constable Shaylyn  Jackson who made the remarks ahead of a memorial service held in Woodstock on Tuesday in memory of Taz.

Woodstock Police say they were helping Stratford Police with an investigation in Stratford on July 3rd  when two of their police services dogs, Taz and Striker, appeared to ingest drugs.

Taz later died while Striker got better and returned home.

Two men were arrested and face several charges.

A large procession including K9 units from across the province and south of the border took place before the memorial got underway.

Jackson says it was a day the policing community as well as the K9 community could come together and support one another.

She says Taz had a unique story, as he started out as a family pet before eventually becoming a part of the force, and she says the outpouring of support they have received from the community gives them a great feeling.
