Five St.Marys residents recognized as “Strong As Stone”

Five St.Marys residents are being recognized as being strong as stone.

At last week’s council meeting, the residents were honored in recognition of their selfless deeds.

Among the group was Andrew Middleton, who delivered meals during the peak of the pandemic. He also assists with fundraisers for Camp Bimini and regularly drives others to and from church.

Gord Barnett was recognized for donating a kayak to the Yak Shack, and for using his photography and social media skills to promote local initiatives and share helpful information.

Grant Barton was applauded for his work with the local food bank and Nourish Market. Grant also decorates and drives the Rotary’s Christmas float and delivers meals to seniors during the holidays.

Reverend Gwen Ament’s long-time advocacy for inclusion was acknowledged, as were her recent efforts to help re-settle Ukrainian refugees.

The final recipient was Susan McCutcheon, whose decade of teaching fitness classes at the Friendship Centre has helped countless local seniors stay strong and active.

Nominations for 2024 recipients will start being collected in February.
