Future unclear for Stratford Bingo Country

The future of Bingo Country Stratford at the city’s Agriplex remains cloudy.

City employees told the bingo hall’s management in late July that they would not be renewing their lease at the agriplex as of September 30th because they want to use the space to expand other programs.

They cited reasons including that the bingo hall, the only current tenant of the space, doesn’t fill the room to capacity and it could be used for other uses.

Regulars at the bingo hall have been holding protests in front of Stratford City Hall over the past few weeks calling for the reversal of the decision and saying that other alternatives that have been offered don’t meet their requirements.

At the Stratford City Council meeting Monday night, several motions to extend the lease by different time periods by Councilors Bonnie Henderson and Cody Sebben were defeated.

The issue has been sent to staff to talk with the management of the bingo hall to see if a short-term solution can be found.
