Perth-Wellington MP calling on Via Rail President to come to Stratford

Transportation is front of mind for Perth-Wellington MP John Nater with Parliament reconvening for its fall sitting.

Beginning Monday, Parliament will be in session until the middle of December and Nater says a lack of public transportation options, especially with the pilot project for Go Train service ending on October 13th, is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Among the ways to help, Nater says adjusting the Via Rail train schedule in the region so it’s more convenient for riders is a top priority.

He says he’s asked Via Rail President Mario Peloquin to come to Stratford to learn more about what’s happening.

“To this point he’s refused to meet with us, I’ve encouraged him to come to Stratford, come on the train to Stratford to see what service is like here because we need better train schedules through Via Rail to really help connect people.”

Nater adds there also needs to be real change in how rail lines, owned by the Canadian National Railway, are allocated.
