Breaking: Masking now required in clinical areas of local hospitals

Masking is now required if you’re in any clinical areas at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance hospitals.

HPHA officials say masking is also recommended, but not required, in non-clinical areas and medical grade masks will be provided at stations set up throughout hospital sites, not just entrances.

Erica Jensen, Manager of Quality, Patient Safety and Infection Control with HPHA, says the decision was made after looking at COVID-19 data.

“We did notice that things are higher in our area and that’s sort of why we made the switch maybe a little bit earlier than some other hospitals have decided to go.”

Jensen adds that it’s difficult to say what the COVID-19 and influenza situation will be like in the months ahead but people can help themselves by doing things like masking and staying home when sick.
