Proposed Stratford budget holds a property tax increase of close to eight per cent

Stratford City Council will soon vote on a proposed 2024 budget with a property tax increase of close to eight per cent.
After a budgeting process that began in August with city departments coming up with their requests, and several meetings at the committee level along the way, council cut what started as a 9.98 per cent budget down to 7.73 per cent.
That means a home assessed at $350,000 would see their property taxes go up $404.64 year-over-year.
Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma says the city is looking to the province to help offset costs that are rising across the board.
“We need you to come to the table with more, and that could be more for how we support those that are on fixed incomes.”
Ritsma adds that council will formally vote on the budget at a meeting on February 26th.
