Province announces over $100 million for PSW and nurses training

Provincial funding to the tune of over $100 million will help train more than 32,000 personal support workers and nurses in Ontario.

Minister of Long-Term Care Stan Cho was at Spruce Lodge in Stratford Wednesday morning to announce money for both the Preceptor Resource and Education Program for Long-Term Care and Living Classrooms, both of which provide on-the-job training, over the next three years.

Spruce Lodge Administrator Peter Bolland says they have already seen the impacts of the programs locally and he says the new funding is the continuation of that.

Bolland says the commitment is about taking care of those who need it.

“On the heels of a pandemic where we saw a lot of staffing shortages, it was a game changer, and just the fact it offers the program at no cost to the people that are participating.”

Bolland adds provincial funding is critical because COVID-19 ravaged the long-term-care home sector.
