The future: city council adopts strategic priorities

A new set of strategic priorities has been adopted by Stratford City Council.

The newest version essentially updates the city’s vision, mission and values.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma said the process was aided by Overlap Associates (Inc.), which led the strategic priority setting process.

“It’s important work,” he said.

Input was sought from community members and meetings were held between city staff and Overlap, and the mayor and councillors were also engaged via one-on-one interviews.

“I am really pleased that this was passed. It identifies our mission, our vision and our values moving forward, so it identifies the initiatives that council sees are important in our community and the work of staff moving forward.”

The document is a four-year plan.

As outlined in a management report prepared by Emily Robson, Corporate Initiatives Lead, priorities and objectives include:

  • enhancing/investing in infrastructure to support the community’s overall well-being.
  • building housing stability by reducing barriers to building, advancing supportive housing projects, prioritizing housing in the Official Plan Review and partnering with community.
  • working together for greater impact by supporting the city’s “creative, innovative, solution-focused people and organizations”

The mayor said the priorities are the future for council, residents, businesses and industry.

“I am really happy this was passed, a lot of heavy lifting.”

The final document will be posted on the city website.
