There are some local connections to a play that opens Saturday at the Blyth Festival.
Mark Crawford is a playwright, actor and Stratford resident, who has penned The Golden Anniversaries.
The production features a couple named Glen and Sandy Golden.
Each year the couple go to a cottage on the lake to celebrate their anniversary, but things are different as their 50th anniversary approaches, Crawford says.
The story features flashbacks to their wedding and various anniversaries.
“So we get to see them through time and get to see the entire story of this marriage.”
Crawford was inspired by the idea of writing an intimate play about two characters and one relationship and wanted to play with time and memory.
Golden Anniversaries is directed by Myles Potter, who has experience at the Stratford Festival and Blyth Festival and is also a Stratford resident.
It stars Jim Mezon (Maze-on) and Janet-Laine Green.
“I think the play is for anybody who is in a relationship or in a family, really.”
The play runs to August 4.
